Symptoms

When trying to Install Max's Sandbox, the error message from InstallShield "Error - 1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance" is displayed. Installation process is then cancelled.

Cause

Unknown. InstallShield are currently investigating this issue.

Resolution

In order to resovle this issue certain windows system files need to be renamed. These files are locked by windows when your machine is on and therefore the renaming process needs to happen as the machine first starts up. We have created an executable file WinInstallerFilechange.exe which will do this for you.

1. Click on the following link WinInstallerFileChange to download the executable.
2. A File Download dialog box will appear.
3. Click the Save button, select the save in location as the Desktop, and click the Ok button.
4. Once the download is complete, double click on the WinInstallerFilechange.exe.
